On Aug. 1, 2025, the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) announced it had created a new Graduate Medical Education (GME) Physician Residency Incentive Program. This new program was announced in Medicaid bulletin MB# 25-019 and is designed to increase the number of physicians trained in high-need specialties, with a focus on improving access to care for Healthy Connections Medicaid members and South Carolina’s underserved communities through residency training.

SCDHHS has developed a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) and responses specific to the new Physician Residency Incentive Program.
